So Christmas is just waiting around the corner, and like every
year, I have waited till the very last minute to come up with a cute handmade
gift I can make for everyone. I was proud of myself this year. I started
earlier than usual (usually I begin on Christmas eve or better still Christmas
morning!)
I decided this year to make cake pops decorated as little snowmen.
So, as I said previously, I had gotten bored with our families decorations because for most, if not all the years of my life the decorations have not changed. The same baubles and trinkets go on the tree every year.
Maybe it was because there was no theme or
pattern to our tree, but whatever the reason I had had enough.
While I haven't been very good at sharing it with you the past few weeks, I have seriously been enjoying the approach of Christmas. There is something so exciting and different about this year that I can't place.
I am a library lover. I take great pleasure in knowing that if I completely hate a book that I don't even need to finish it I can just return it and hopefully never see it again. I also love that I can browse for anything and easily change my mind once I get home. If I get the feeling for action but get home and decide that honestly now is not the time that's fine (I just end up doing heaps of trips to the library).
There are times that I find an absolute beauty and then I go and buy the whole series and follow the author and every book they publish after. But I also like libraries for the ability to sample things that I haven't tried before.
Every so often (at the moment it is roughly once every second month) I head down/up to one of my local libraries and collect a stack of books. Sometimes it will just be a few if I'm reading a series and other times when I'm in-between big book series it will be quite a large stack as I'm searching for my next read.
I thought that this time I'd share my stack of books with you.

I wasn't actually going to share this seeing it ended up a little more of a disaster than I had hoped, but if it makes at least on person laugh today then I'll be satisfied.
I still, hopefully have a Christmassy crafty project to come (with some of the littler ones) which will hopefully work out better but here is the first.

Because I enjoyed writing about my
favourite things last month (here) I thought I'd share them with you again.
That being said, if you enjoy setting up everything first and following instructions flawlessly, I envy you! I feel baking should be something that makes you happy so you do you and have fun baking!
But can I just say that finding a handbag that I loved was a challenge. Seriously! Blood sweat and tears! (Well maybe not the blood...)
Even though I don't classify it as my handbag, recently I have been carrying around this little calico bag so I figured considering I am a super impatient person and this is my unofficial handbag. Today is the perfect day to tell you what's in my bag.
Tomorrow I am going to buy a handbag.
There is no doubt about it. Tomorrow I WILL be the owner of a new handbag.
Since graduating last year I have been spending a lot more time at home. University timetables just don't run the same as school does so there would be some days where I'd be there all day and others where I wouldn't at all. Also, summer holidays are SUPER long! (already on break now... don't go back till March...)
So yeah, a lot more time at home...
Which is absolutely great! I have so much time to do so many different and new things! For example; My baking skills are so much better and I more confident tackling those harder recipes knowing there is a higher chance that things will turn out ok. (Provided I just have one recipe going at once... B two or three different things at once is not the best idea...). I have had time to begin to teach myself piano and sew dresses and even had time to seriously rage a war on my room which is going to be amazing really soon!
But it can have a negative effect...

As a child being given gifts was one of the greatest things to happen. There was such an excitement surrounding the event and you knew that it was going to be totally awesome.
Why can't I find overalls like these anymore!?! |
That being said...
Just because it really should go, doesn't mean I don't love it...
Spring has sprung in this part of the world! Although we have probably had more rainy days than actual sunny nice ones. That being said it is still technically spring regardless of the weather so I though I'd share with you some of my favourites so far this season.
My friends and I are planning a murder mystery party which, may I say when it came to adapting a small party so that it would work for 30+ people is not an easy task. I have to confess I didn't have a lot to do with character creation or evidence development so when the opportunity came to making fancy invitations for the fictional characters dinner party to go with their character instructions, I gave myself willingly.
I had an exam this morning... ew
Then I spent the rest of the morning and
the hot afternoon walking around the city looking for a place that sold nice
cardstock and pretty craft supplies for some invitations I'm making.
About halfway through my trek, I realised
the exact store I was looking for, a Paperchase! I tried to remember the last
place I'd been to one because I knew they'd have what I needed.
...
...
...
Then it dawned on me...
I live in Melbourne, Australia.
The land down under that has ZERO
paperchases.
When it comes to afternoon teas with friends or family I will
never turn one down. It's a chance to get together and talk and most of the
time, a chance for me to bake some sweet treats!
Today I made these delicious Gingerbread cupcakes
with lemon icing which could be one of my all-time favourite recipes. I know
that there are people out there that don't like ginger but I do and combined with the golden syrup it makes these super moist cupcakes that are the greatest!
So my birthday is coming up soon, (actually now I think about it,
really soon!) which means that it's time for the annoying 'what do you want for
your birthday?' questions, from everyone you hold dear.
Gone are the days where your birthday came
and you were surprise with the lovely collection of gifts. Now days, you have to come up with your own ideas. You can't just say 'nothing' because then people will do one of two things;
1. Take you seriously
Or
2. Get super dooper frustrated with you and then wait for you to actually come up with something.
My go to answer is a KitchenAid because it's true. I would love a KitchenAid but they tend to be a bit out of peoples' price range.
That usually is enough for people to either come up with their own idea or realise I'm not going to be as helpful as they hoped because I don't really want any physical 'stuff'.
Which gets me too my point for
today...
Even though I'm not a major animal nut the zoo still seems to be one of my favourite places to go and I always find myself wanting to visit every couple of year. Personally, the zoo is one of the most fascinating places in the world. Every time I go it has changed (although the last gap between visits was about 5 years so change is understandable). It makes me realise how little I know of the animal kingdom.
On the most recent of my trip to the zoo I took a tonne of photos which i thought I'd share with you here.
Who wouldn't say YES to a muffin they could eat for breakfast without feeling naughty?
A dear friend of mine gave me this recipe when she decided to cut down on her sugar consumption. She was super excited saying they were the greatest muffins in the world! At the time I wasn't entirely convinced as muffins tend to be a bit boring when you get down to the nitty gritty. Usually all the yummy stuff is just sprinkled on the top and the muffin itself can be dry and bland...
Well not these ones!
I can safely say that these bad boys (or are the good boys because they've got goodness in them?) are most definitely THE GREATEST MUFFINS IN THE WORLD!
And...
*drum roll*
I'm going to give you all you need to make them!
Have you ever dreamed of having a pen pall?
I know I have. Some lovely person on the other side of the world that I could share my day, my thoughts, my exciting adventures with and in return here things from them.
Imagine then if some random account sent you an email then and you replied saying that you thought that email wasn't intended for you.
Then this sparks a conversation and there you have it! A pen pal.
Imagine then if this pen pal turned out to be famous.
Now I wish I could say that that had happened to me, but sadly, it didn't.
It did happen though in one of the latest books I read,
The sun was too hot...
The lecture room too cold...
And the lectures far too long...
I mean, I have the attention span of at best 50 minutes so two, two hour lectures back to back at lunch time is asking for trouble.
The day had become a massive list of things I had to do first before I could get home.
Sorry it's been a while between posts. My aim originally was to try and
write something every couple of days, and I realise it's been longer than that
but I had some things I wanted to achieve first aspects of that took longer
than expected.
I came to the realisation recently that I've done this blog entirely the
wrong way around.
I'm pretty sure that you're supposed to have your layout decided before
you start your blog and not edit it along the way...
Now I think about it, I left my key at
home too... I'm not doing very well this morning!
I suppose I could have gone back for them.
I had a little time to spare and I
realised before I got too far away but I'm not going to be out for too long so
why bother?
So here I am, sitting on my deck at 7pm no cares in the world...
The sun hasn't set yet and looks as though it has hours left to go...
And I'm struck with how strange a concept daylight saving is...

Friends, help me! I have a conundrum!
Seriously though, regardless of when you are reading this, this is a
serious issue and I am in dire need of your advice.
Some basic facts:
When driving in Australia or the UK you drive on the left hand side of the road.
In America and Europe you drive on the right.
Road rules, weird huh?
Also...
When on the escalators at tube stations in London you stand on the right
hand side and give way to those walking up the left. Again, another fact.
(Luckily a fact knew before I went to London and made a fool of myself.)
What I'm getting to is that there are set rules or ways that
everyone does things and everyone goes and learns them so that things can run as smoothly as possible (most of the time).
So, my question is: What is the common courtesy for
stairs?
Who knew that starting a blog could be this complex and completely time consuming! It has taken so much fiddling and Googling just to get this far...
This was probably because I was so determined I was going to get this right the first time and also partly because originally I had decided that I would wait until the New Year to begin a more thought through blog.
Sadly I couldn't wait any longer...
